1946년 위싱턴DC 변호사 아버지로 부터 태어난 샐리는 두 자매가 있고 
유복한 집에서 자랐다 자매와 함께 그림 그리기를 좋아한 샐리는 
마운트 빈센트 칼리지를 졸업하고, 뉴욕에서 본격적으로 드로잉을 
배우기 시작, Robert Shultz 밑에서 6년을 뉴저지까지 운전해가면서 배웠다.
25세에 결혼한 샐리는 처음으로 바닷가 그림을 그리기 시작했는데
첫 아이를 임신했을때 바닷가에서 아이들이 노는 모습을 작은 크기로 그려서 
주변 사람에게 보여 줬더니 반응이 좋아서 아이가 태어난 다음부터 자신의 
아이들과 이웃집의 아이들을 모델로 바닷가에서 노는 모습들 사진으로 
찍어서 그리기 시작했다 해변가 사진전에서 입상하고, 그후로도 밝은 색감과 
밝고, 맑은 어린이들을 그리기를 좋아하는 샐리는 현재 코네티컷에 살고 있다
